VPX is a widely defined technology that utilizes the latest techniques in various switch architecture technologies in 3U and 6U format blades. OpenVPX is an architecture framework that defines system level VPX interoperability for multi vendor, multi module, integrated system environments.

The OpenVPX framework defines clear interoperability points required for module to module, module to backplane, and chassis integration. OpenVPX recommends but does not specify a development system to assist in the evaluation, prototyping, and development of VPX systems.
