CCTV reveals latest domestically produced missile: launched in 5 seconds, destroyed upon discovery

In recent years, China's national defense strength has rapidly improved, not only due to our own efforts, but also thanks to the contributions of Western countries. It is precisely those Western countries led by the United States that have continuously created pressure on China in recent years to restrict and suppress its development. China will not make such great progress under such pressure.

Recently, a military program on CCTV provided a detailed introduction to China's latest generation of portable air defense missile weapon system - the Vanguard 2. This weapon may seem simple, but its performance is not at all simple. It can complete the entire process from aiming to firing within 5 seconds, and can "destroy" drones, armed helicopters, and even cruise missiles upon discovery.

So what is a man portable air defense missile? A single soldier portable air defense missile refers to a complete weapon system that can be carried by a single soldier and can be maneuvered around, hence it is also known as a "shoulder mounted air defense missile". It is the most short-range, lowest altitude, lightest weight, and smallest volume air defense weapon in the series of surface to air missiles. Mainly used in important areas such as front-line outposts, the main targets of attack are bombers, armed helicopters, attack aircraft, and fighter jets flying at ultra-low altitudes (10-100 meters) and low altitudes (below 1000 meters).

This seemingly unremarkable weapon, although "ugly in appearance and low in price", has no weak performance in practical use. It has shown remarkable performance in many regional conflicts and local wars, and is known as the "helicopter nemesis" and "low air killer".

And this Qianfeng-2 missile is a new type of individual portable air defense missile modified on the basis of Qianfeng-1, which was carried out by China Precision Machinery Export Corporation for this modification project.

The main task of this missile is to strike targets at ultra-low and low altitudes. Compared with the Vanguard 1, the Vanguard 2 has been strengthened in weight, length, and strike range. The total weight of the Vanguard 2 is 18 kilograms, the missile weighs 11.32 kilograms, the warhead weighs 1.42 kilograms, the missile is 1.59 meters long, and the diameter is 72 millimeters. Its maximum combat range reaches 5000-6000 meters, and the interception height of the target reaches 3500 meters.

At the same time, the guidance method used is multi unit infrared search, and the control mode is proportional guidance, which can complete the entire launch process within 5 seconds. The missile's speed has reached 600 meters per second, and most importantly, its anti-interference ability has been greatly enhanced. When facing multiple infrared decoys released by multiple targets, it can accurately track and lock onto the enemy, and the targets are not easily lost.

The combat part of this individual portable air defense missile consists of three parts: ground battery refrigeration gas cylinder, launch mechanism, and barrel missile. The launch tube can be used as a packaging during the transportation and storage of the missile, as well as a support for firing and aiming during actual use.

Due to the semi prefabricated fragmentation design used in this missile, a large number of destructive fragments will be generated during the explosion. The size of these fragments is also larger than that of conventional lethal missiles. As the target's protection is generally weaker than that of ground targets during low altitude flight, this missile can achieve the effect of "hitting and destroying".

In theory, the Vanguard 2 missile can be fully operated by a soldier. During launch, the soldier only needs to carry the missile on their shoulder and then launch it through their own observation.

However, in daily life, this missile is usually completed by two soldiers, one acting as an observer and the other as a shooter. The observer provides accurate and effective launch signals to the shooter by observing various information, attacking and intercepting the target. After launch, the missile can automatically track the enemy, and the soldiers can immediately transfer locations to avoid enemy retaliation.

Some missile experts in our country have also stated that the Vanguard 2 missile is an important means of air defense interception in our country. It not only has flexible and versatile launch methods, but also has the characteristic of high efficiency. It only takes 5 seconds to complete aiming and launch, and the range and accuracy of the strike are also very high. In theory, it can be "discovered and destroyed".

In the recent "International Military Competition-2021" air defense missile competition, China successfully won first place with this missile. Other countries have also unanimously praised the quality and performance of China's missile, which has received widespread praise.

Tang Weiguo, a researcher at the Second Academy of China Aerospace Science and Technology, also gave an evaluation of the Qianfeng-2, saying that this missile belongs to the world's third-generation air defense missile and is at the top level in the world because it meets the requirements of third-generation missiles and can not only resist infrared interference but also achieve tail chasing and head-on attacks.
