According to an article published on the airrecognition website on September 1, 2021, Russia's largest air launched weapon manufacturer, Tactical Missile Company (KTRV), announced that it has begun modernizing and upgrading the R-27 air-to-air missile, launching three improved models: R-27R1/ER1, R-27P1/EP1, and R-27T1/ET1. All improved models (ALWs) are customized for the MiG and Soviet series multi-purpose fighter jets, equipped with radar fuses and impact fuses, a 39 kilogram continuous rod warhead, and single-mode and dual-mode engines. The difference between each type lies in the guidance head and propulsion system.
