The development process of biomimetics in biology

Biomimicry refers to the study of the principles of the structure and function of living organisms, using artificial mechanisms that mimic natural bodies to synthesize similar products. For centuries, humans have been exploring and studying bionics, attempting to move and act like complex animal life forms.Biomimetic technology will be beneficial for future naval architecture and operations, mainly used in key areas such as denial and deception, mobility and maneuverability.

Navy technicians have developed the "Ghost Swimmer" unmanned underwater vehicle using biomimetic technology, which looks and swims like a shark. However, as bionics applications become more refined and deceptive, the technology of the "Ghost Swimmer" is far from meeting future combat needs.

In 2015, materials scientists developed an electrically activated molecular biomimetic material that can automatically adjust the color tone to adapt to the surrounding environment. The navy can use this technology to manufacture torpedoes or mines launched by aircraft or submarines, as long as the important components of these weapon systems (such as fuses, detonators, and sensors) remain unchanged and coated with "artificial intelligence skins", their appearance, behavior, and movement are similar to sea urchins, starfish, or other invertebrates.

The use of biomimetic technology will enhance the navy's more effective and lethal combat capabilities. By closely studying and imitating the ideas of nature, the navy will achieve faster, more concealed, more maneuverable, and more efficient ship designs, helping the navy to more effectively strike opponents in denied combat environments.
